Women’s Health Care at The Lomond Clinic
October marks both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Menopause Awareness Month, so it’s only natural that we’ve been reflecting on women’s health, and what that actually means.

More Than Just ‘Women’s Problems’
When we talk about women’s health, there’s a natural focus on reproductive health. And although that’s obviously important, it’s about so much more than that. Women’s health, for us, is about all of your health, not just one aspect of it, and how everything connects – your heart health, your bones, your mental wellbeing, your sleep, your stress levels, and yes, your hormones, too.
Women face unique health challenges across their lifetime. For example, heart disease is a leading cause of death for women, but the symptoms often present differently than in men. Autoimmune conditions like thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus disproportionately affect women. Bone health becomes crucial as oestrogen levels change. And mental health challenges – including anxiety and depression – can be deeply intertwined with physical symptoms.
What might seem like separate issues often connect in surprising ways – just ask anyone who is perimenopausal and they’ll be able to tell you about a myriad of unexpected side-effects which can be linked to hormone changes! It can all seem a bit confusing.
That’s why we take a joined-up approach to women’s health, just as we do for health and wellbeing in general. Our approach connects medical care with mental health support, physiotherapy, massage and holistic treatments.
Because sometimes the answer isn’t just medication. For example, if you struggle with headaches the answer could be in medical advice and medication, and addressing contributing factors like stress through counselling, improving sleep hygiene, or working with our physiotherapist on neck and shoulder tension. Sometimes managing menopausal symptoms works best when you combine medical support and HRT with stress-reduction techniques and physical therapies.
It’s something to think about.
The Life Stages Nobody Warns You About
Your Twenties & Thirties:
Building careers and possibly families while navigating contraceptive choices, fertility questions, managing conditions like PCOS or endometriosis, and establishing healthy habits that will serve you for decades.
Your Forties:
The perimenopause years that nobody really talks about (although, thankfully, we’re getting better about that now). Irregular periods, mood changes, sleep problems, and wondering if you’re going mad – all while juggling teenagers, ageing parents, and career peaks.
Menopause and beyond:
Hot flushes are just the beginning. Joint pain, brain fog, confidence wobbles, bone health concerns, and cardiovascular risk changes. It’s also a time when cancer screening becomes increasingly important.
At each stage, you deserve care that sees the bigger picture and treats you as a whole person.

It’s important to take care of you
We all know how important it is to look after ourselves. Women generally are good at getting medical help when they need it, much more so than men. But we’re also good at putting everyone else’s needs before our own. If you’ve a family, you’re likely the chief organiser, worrier, and caretaker.
Sound familiar?
When everyone’s relying on you to keep things running smoothly, looking after your own health isn’t just nice to have – it’s essential.
We know it feels selfish sometimes, booking time to focus on your own health. But, there’s truth in the cliché: you can’t pour from an empty cup.
So this month, as conversations around breast cancer and menopause awareness remind us of the importance of women’s health, we’re gently reminding you that you and your health are worth investing in.
You deserve care that listens, understands, and treats you as a whole person – not just a collection of symptoms. You deserve time to discuss your concerns properly, and healthcare that adapts to your life stages and changing needs.
Whether you’re overdue for routine screenings, concerned about family history, experiencing new symptoms, or simply want to establish ongoing care with a team who understands women’s health, we’re here.

If you want to make an appointment, you can book online or by calling us on 01436 672677.
