Hydrotherm: massage on warm water cushions

We talk about Hydrotherm as a type of massage that we offer, but what is Hydrotherm?

Hydrotherm is a distinctive massage treatment. Instead of lying on a massage table, you rest on a warm, water-filled bed that cushions your body and spine from top to bottom. The warmth and support from the cushions make it a deeply relaxing treatment.

There’s no turning over, lying on your stomach, or squashing your face into the table. If your therapist wants to massage your back or shoulders, they’ll reach underneath you instead of you having to move.

And because you stay on your back throughout, it’s a comfortable option in pregnancy and for people recovering from cancer treatment.

Although Hydrotherm is ideal for relaxation, sessions can be as gentle or as remedial as you need, and can last from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions about Massage

No, no referrals needed. You can book directly by phone 01436 672677 or book online.

It depends what you want from it. Hot stone, aromatherapy and Hydrotherm massages suit deep relaxation. Indian head massage helps with headaches and tension from sitting at a desk, as will a head and neck massage. Swedish massage is a classic full body therapeutic massage, and can be relaxing, help boost circulation and ease stiffness. And sports and remedial massage is usually targeted and used for training, recovery or helping with ongoing knots or aches. See Which massage is right for you? above. Or, call us on 01436 672677 and we can help you pick.

Treatments run from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the type. Our price list and booking page show the length of each one.

Loose, comfortable clothing is best. For sports massages, depending on where is being treated, joggers, shorts and/or a sports bra may make things easier. But wear whatever you’re comfortable with, and your therapist will explain what to expect before you start.

Yes, we offer pre-natal massage and also Hydrotherm massage with Jill, and you lie on your back throughout. Tell us how far along you are when you book, and check with your midwife or GP if you have any concerns.

Yes, we offer oncology Hydrotherm massage with Jill, adapted gently for you. Let us know about your treatment when you book, and speak to your oncology team first if you’re unsure.

Sports and remedial massage is firmer and more targeted, aimed at injuries, strains and recovery. Relaxation massage is slower and more soothing. Read more on our sports massage page.
