Safe, effective removal of thread veins, red veins and skin tags in Helensburgh at The Lomond Clinic

ThermaVein® Treatment in Helensburgh for Red Vein Removal & Skin Tag Treatment

ThermaVein® at The Lomond Clinic offers a precise, minimally invasive treatment to permanently remove thread veins, red veins, spider veins, skin tags and vascular blemishes – with immediate, visible results and minimal downtime.

What is ThermaVein®?

ThermaVein® is a safe, permanent solution for thread veins, red veins and skin tags

ThermaVein® is an advanced medical device that uses precise microwave technology to treat visible red veins and benign skin lesions.

Unlike laser or IPL treatments, ThermaVein® works by delivering a very low current of 4MHz through a hair-thin, insulated probe that targets the vein wall directly – sealing it instantly and permanently without damaging surrounding skin.

ThermaVein® is a safe, effective and minimally invasive treatment to permanently remove thread veins, red veins, spider veins, skin tags and vascular blemishes.

What Can ThermaVein® Treat?

ThermaVein® is clinically proven to effectively treat:

  • Thread veins (telangiectasia) on the face
  • Spider veins and red veins on nose and cheeks
  • Broken capillaries around the nose
  • Cherry angiomas (small red spots)
  • Skin tagson the face, neck and body
  • Campbell de Morgan spots (red moles)
  • Blood spots and vascular blemishes

Why Choose ThermaVein® at The Lomond Clinic?

Permanent Results

Unlike some treatments that require multiple sessions with varying success rates, ThermaVein® permanently collapses the vein walls, preventing them from refilling. Once treated, the veins do not return.

Minimal Discomfort

The treatment involves a slight sensation similar to a tiny pinprick as each vein is treated, but most patients find it very tolerable. No anaesthetic is typically required.

Safe for All Skin Types

Because ThermaVein® doesn’t use heat, light or lasers that target pigment in the skin, it’s safe for all skin tones and types – including darker skin where laser treatments carry higher risks.

No Downtime

You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. There may be slight redness or tiny marks where veins were treated, but these typically fade within a few days.

The ultra-fine insulated probe allows our practitioners to target even the smallest veins with pinpoint accuracy, treating problem areas without affecting healthy surrounding tissue.

What to Expect During Your ThermaVein® Treatment

Initial Consultation

Your treatment begins with a thorough consultation with Anna or Jill, who will assess your skin concerns, discuss your medical history, and explain exactly what ThermaVein® can achieve for your individual needs. This is your opportunity to ask questions and understand what to expect.

The Treatment

The appointment, including treatment, typically takes between 15-45 minutes depending on the size and number of areas being treated:

  1. The treatment area is cleansed and prepared
  2. Using a hair-thin, sterile insulated probe, each vein or lesion is treated individually
  3. You’ll see veins disappear as they’re treated – instant feedback that the treatment is working
  4. Multiple veins can be treated in one session
  5. No dressings or aftercare products are usually required

After Your Treatment

Most people return to their normal routine immediately. You may notice:

  • Slight redness in treated areas (usually settles within hours)
  • Tiny marks where veins were treated (fade within days)
  • Immediate disappearance of treated veins
  • Clearer, more even-toned skin

Follow-Up

Some patients achieve their desired results in a single session. Others with more extensive thread veins or multiple concerns may benefit from a second treatment session after 4-6 weeks. Your practitioner will advise you on the best approach during your consultation.

Who Can Benefit from ThermaVein®?

ThermaVein® is ideal for anyone bothered by:

  • Facial thread veins on the nose, cheeks or chin
  • Red veins that make you feel self-conscious
  • Persistent broken capillaries
  • Skin tags that catch on clothing or jewellery
  • Red spots and vascular blemishes
  • Thread veins that haven’t responded to other treatments

The treatment is suitable for men and women of all ages and skin types. However, it’s not suitable during pregnancy or for those with certain medical conditions. Your practitioner will discuss any contraindications during your consultation.

Why Thread Veins and Red Veins Develop

Thread veins (also called spider veins or broken capillaries) are tiny dilated blood vessels that become visible near the skin’s surface. They’re incredibly common and can develop due to:

  • Genetics – if your parents had them, you’re more likely to develop them
  • Sun damage – UV exposure weakens skin and blood vessels
  • Ageing – skin becomes thinner and veins more visible
  • Hormonal changes – pregnancy, menopause, or contraceptive use
  • Rosacea – a chronic skin condition that causes facial redness
  • Temperature extremes – very hot or cold weather
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Skin trauma or injury

While they’re harmless, thread veins and red veins can affect your confidence and how you feel about your appearance. ThermaVein® offers a safe, effective solution.

Frequently Asked Questions about ThermaVein®

Does ThermaVein® hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as a tiny pinprick or slight sting as each vein is treated. The discomfort is minimal and brief. No anaesthetic is usually required, though a topical numbing cream can be applied if you’re particularly sensitive.

How long do results last?

Results are permanent. Once a vein is treated with ThermaVein®, it’s sealed and absorbed by the body. However, new veins can develop over time due to genetics, sun exposure, hormones or other factors. These can be treated as they appear.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are minimal. You may experience slight redness, tiny pinpoint marks, or very minor swelling in treated areas. These typically resolve within 24-48 hours. Serious complications are extremely rare when performed by trained practitioners.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients achieve excellent results in just one session. Those with more extensive thread veins or larger treatment areas may benefit from 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Can ThermaVein® treat veins on my legs?

Yes, ThermaVein® is excellent for treating spider veins and thread veins on the legs, particularly those too small for sclerotherapy. It’s often used in combination with sclerotherapy for comprehensive leg vein treatment. See more about microsclerotherapy at The Lomond Clinic →

Is there any downtime?

No. You can return to work and normal activities immediately. We recommend avoiding very hot baths, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours after treatment.

How much does ThermaVein® cost?

Treatment costs vary depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Contact us for a personalised quote, or book a consultation where we can assess your needs and provide accurate pricing.
