Safe, professional ear wax removal by a qualified Registered Nurse in Helensburgh

Ear Wax Removal Helensburgh

Blocked ears are more disruptive than people realise — affecting hearing, concentration and even balance. Anna Blackshaw, our qualified Registered Nurse, can usually sort it in a single appointment.

Ear Wax Removal Clinic in Helensburgh every Wednesday

Blocked ears are very common — and can be very disruptive. Muffled hearing, a sense of fullness, ringing, or even dizziness can all be caused by a build-up of ear wax. The good news is that it’s quick and easy to sort out.

At The Lomond Clinic, ear wax removal is carried out by Anna Blackshaw, our experienced Registered General Nurse, who runs a dedicated ear wax removal clinic every Wednesday. Anna is fully trained and insured in both microsuction and irrigation removal techniques, and will choose the most appropriate method for you.

To make an appointment, call 01436 672677 or book online here.

Two options: Microsuction and Irrigation

Anna offers both microsuction and irrigation methods of ear wax removal, and will advise which is most suitable for you at the time of your appointment.

Microsuction uses a small, gentle suction device to remove wax from the ear canal. It’s considered the gold-standard method — no water is used, it’s precise, and it’s suitable for most people, including those with perforated eardrums or a history of ear surgery. It’s quick, comfortable and effective.

Irrigation (sometimes called ear syringing) uses a gentle flow of warm water to soften and flush out the wax. It’s a well-established method, and is a good option for many straightforward cases.

Both methods are safe, effective and carried out by a qualified and experienced nurse — not a technician.

During your appointment, Anna can use a digital otoscope to take pictures of the ear canal and eardrum — showing wax before and after removal, or flagging anything else worth noting.

Images can be shared with you during the appointment, or forwarded to your GP if relevant.

You don’t need to prepare in any particular way, though using almond oil or olive oil drops for 4-5 days beforehand can soften wax and make removal easier. Anna will carry out a brief assessment of your ears before proceeding with treatment, and will explain what she finds and what she recommends.

The whole appointment typically takes around 30 minutes.

When should I get my ears checked?

Common signs that ear wax may be a problem include:

  • Muffled or reduced hearing
  • A feeling of ‘fullness’ or pressure in the ear
  • Tinnitus (ringing, buzzing, or other sounds)
  • Earache or discomfort
  • Dizziness

If you’re unsure whether your symptoms are caused by wax, an ear assessment will give you a clear answer before any treatment takes place.
