Frequently Asked Questions about our Women’s Health services
What menopause treatments are available at The Lomond Clinic?
Dr Joyce offers a full range of menopause treatments, including HRT (hormone replacement therapy) in various forms, as well as non-hormonal alternatives for women who can’t or prefer not to take HRT. These include Fezolinetant for hot flushes and night sweats, and vaginal Prasterone or oral Ospemifene for vaginal dryness. The right approach depends on your symptoms, medical history and personal preferences — Dr Joyce will discuss all options with you at your consultation.
Can I get HRT prescribed at The Lomond Clinic?
Yes. Dr Joyce can prescribe HRT following a full consultation. She’ll review your symptoms, health history, and any contraindications to recommend the most appropriate type and delivery method for you.
What is the difference between HRT and non-hormonal menopause treatment?
HRT (hormone replacement therapy) replaces the oestrogen and progesterone that decline during menopause and can be the most effective treatment for most menopause symptoms. Non-hormonal treatments are an alternative for women who have had certain conditions that make HRT unsuitable, or who simply prefer not to take hormones. Options include medications such as Fezolinetant (for hot flushes) and local vaginal treatments such as Prasterone or Ospemifene (for vaginal dryness and discomfort).
Can I get a coil fitted at a private GP appointment?
Yes — Dr Joyce is qualified in coil (IUD and IUS) fitting and removal. She holds specialist contraceptive qualifications from CoSRH (College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare). A full consultation is included as part of the appointment.
Do I need a referral to book a women’s health appointment?
No referral is needed. You can book an appointment online or by calling the clinic on 01436 672677. Dr Joyce welcomes self-referrals for all women’s health concerns.
How long is a women’s health consultation?
All GP appointments at The Lomond Clinic are 30 minutes as standard — significantly longer than a typical NHS appointment. This gives Dr Joyce time to listen properly, explore your concerns in full, and discuss treatment options without you feeling rushed.
Can I see Dr Joyce for ongoing care, not just a one-off consultation?
Yes. Dr Joyce offers ongoing care for conditions such as menopause, hormonal health, and chronic conditions. Many patients see her regularly for prescription management, blood test monitoring, and follow-up consultations.
